- Leadership Equation
Every system in this universe is designed, structured, and made functional by massive mathematical logic and inter-connections. Our natural world is the giant output of scientific techniques. Starting from an amoeba to a mammoth, an atom up to a galaxy all have precise structure and interrelation as part of a remarkable system. Anything tangible or intangible, objective or subjective in the world, all have explicit mathematical interrelations among their features. The way a spaceship is a scientific machine, similarly the human body is a biological device. Computer programs are the critical production of the scientific matrix, and human psychology is the output of billions of neuronal connections in the brain. The way we talk, behave, feel, and perceive certain things is the output of distinct electrochemical signaling constantly taking place inside our skull. A child and a mother have mutual biological interconnection. Emotional bonds between romantic partners do also pass through natural rules of attraction. Similarly, a psychological equation exists between the master and the servant, the commander and the under commands, leaders and their men. To comprehend the equation better, a leader has to find answers to the following few questions:
a. Why should a human follow another human?
b. What drives soldiers to risk their own life in combat?
c. What are the elements of human motivation?
Studies on leadership illustrate that a leader needs the ability to influence his men. He needs to create hope and propagate his dream among people to capture followers’ intuitive motivation. Leaders’ capacity to unite people and move them for the dream defines leadership success. Leaders’ abilities also largely depend upon the context and mindset of followers. Every intangible element of leadership climate may be compared with a tangible engineering design; where each feature of the human relationship determines the quality of the leadership structure. Each trait of a leader acts as the building block of his leading capability. A mega engineering construction needs enormous hard work and adherence to massive mathematical calculation; similarly, structuring a powerful human bond means strong psychological attachment among people and their leader through reliance and respect. A leader must generate enough emotional charge and hope among people so that they follow his voice impulsively. Eric Douglas reveals a profound equation on leadership. He says:
“Trust + Spark = Leadership Culture”
It means leaders become successful when they focus on building trust, and spark innovation in their leadership environment. An ordinary man turns into a leader if he can purchase the trust and dedication of others and use it for the higher vision. Purchasing loyalty, trust, confidence are a kind of trading in the domain of the human mind where one man makes a dream and sells it to others through the package of confidence and hope. Grant Wilde explains leadership as:
E = mc12
Where ‘E’ means for the environment of leadership, ‘m’ stands for the means or purposes of the leader, and ‘c’ for communication, contribute, competence, clarity, creativeness, connection, competition, change, courage, calm, consciousness, and commitment. Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity deals with four dimensions of motions and mechanics. However, leadership dimensions are mostly related to human emotions, and their catalysts are enormous. Grant Wilde emphasized that the leader needs to articulate his purpose and define expectations precisely so that people can grasp them quickly. JB Kellogg has also made a leadership equation and said:
“Clarity of Expectations + Transparency in Actions = Prosperity in Leadership”
Take leadership as an emotional trade of purchasing loyalty, trust, dedication, and respect from your men. Surely, it will cost your comforts and demand sacrifice.
